Commentary from PULSE 25th anniversary. March 13-19 2022
"Pulse has a wonderful advocacy program where they teach us how to be good advocates, not only for ourselves, but for our families...

...We need to be empowered, and the word empowerment means knowing what do to, when do to it.  But also, and this is where Pulse is very important, they give people the skills on how to do it...

...It's an organization that helps the consumer learn how to be a patient.  We don't know how to be a patient, and unfortunately because of that we have poor outcomes."

Education

Dr. McGuckin and McGuckin Methods International pioneer research and programs in patient empowerment and consumer education.

As educators, our experience is providing knowledge. As practitioners, we help consumers gain valuable skills needed to practice good healthcare awareness.

We do it with can-do encouragement for consumers and healthcare workers: yes, we can work together to reduce healthcare-associated infections, improve healthcare service quality, and ensure a safe healthcare experience!

Dr. McGuckin's collaboration in the areas of research and professional development have culminated in directing recent studies in consumer infection reporting, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Public Health Law Research program, and as one of the lead authors for the World Health Organization's (WHO) Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care, part of the Global Patient Safety Challenge.

Hand Hygiene
KNOWLEDGE FOR ACTION

Often referred to as a pioneer in hand hygiene compliance measurement, Dr. McGuckin and the McGuckin Methods International team are a driving force in hand hygiene compliance monitoring, developing and proving methodology that is effective at gathering data for team feedback in hand hygiene performance.

Several hundred hospitals in the USA and abroad have implemented the program, and The Joint Commission monograph on hand hygiene compliance includes several different versions of the McGuckin program, within their recommended methods to overcome the challenges of monitoring hand hygiene adherence.

We have detailed this program methodology in several peer-reviewed scientific articles and abstracts, and it is applicable in any type or size of heatlhcare facility.
